Dr. Robert W. Yeh is the Director of the Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the Katz Silver Family Professor of Medicine in the Field of Outcomes Research in Cardiology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Yeh’s investigational focus is in the area of cardiovascular outcomes and comparative effectiveness research. Through the application of innovative methods to real-world and clinical trial data, he has developed decision tools that have informed clinical care and shaped international guidelines, particularly in the area of optimizing antithrombotic therapy for patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition, he has spearheaded a body of work to evaluate the  effectiveness and safety of cardiovascular devices and interventions, research that has had a strong influence on clinical and regulatory decision-making. His work has advanced the manner in which cardiovascular clinical research is conducted, through the introduction of several novel methodological approaches to the field. He co-founded the Smith Center for Outcomes Research at BIDMC in 2015, which has since become one of the world’s leading centers for health services and outcomes research.

Dr. Yeh has co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications that have appeared in journal including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, and Annals of Internal Medicine. He was awarded the American Heart Association’s Joseph Vita Award in 2020, given each year to an individual “that has had a transformative impact on cardiovascular research.” He has been recognized for his track record of successful mentorship, receiving a K24 award from NHLBI and Harvard Medical School’s Young Mentor Award in 2018, and the Smith Center was recognized with the HMS Program Award for a Culture of Excellence in Mentoring in 2022. Several of his mentees have received independent R01 funding and established independent scientific research careers. He helped establish the Joan and Marcel Zimetbaum Fellowship at the Smith Center in 2021 to provide a 1-year research training experience for individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine. At BIDMC, Dr. Yeh also serves as the Section Chief of Interventional Cardiology, and specializes in complex coronary interventional procedures.
