Elected 2024

Dr. Brown is Associate Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, holds the Riven Family Directorship in Cardiology and is the Director of Experimental Biology in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He received his BA in Classic from Brown University and MD from New York Medical College.  He completed Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.  After completing a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Jorge Plutzky at Brigham and Women's Hospital, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University to establish his own independent research program.

Dr. Brown’s research program focuses on the role of chromatin structure and chromatin-dependent signaling in cardiometabolic diseases including heart failure, atherosclerosis and obesity. In particular, the work focuses on how specific transcriptional coactivators including BRD4 can drive pathologic gene expression programs that can be reversed and disrupted with targeted small-molecule inhibitors.  Ongoing work seeks to develop a deeper understanding of disease regulatory circuits through integration of epigenomic and transcriptomic datasets to discover novel transcriptional regulators driving cardiometabolic disease.
