Daniel Jackson, M.D., is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is a recognized international expert and leader in the pathogenesis and management of childhood asthma. Dr. Jackson’s clinical and translational research has focused on defining new approaches to the prevention and treatment of childhood asthma, with a major focus on asthma exacerbations. He is the PI of the NIAID-funded Childhood Asthma in Urban Settings (CAUSE) Research Network Leadership Center, which aims to conduct novel studies of immune-based treatments for high-risk urban children, a disadvantaged population that suffers disproportionate incidence, morbidity, and mortality from asthma. Previously, Dr. Jackson has designed and led clinical trials in the NHLBI’s AsthmaNet and the NIAID’s Inner City Asthma Consortium focused on mechanisms and prevention of asthma exacerbations in children. These studies have promoted personalized approaches to asthma therapy, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to care. He is the UW-Madison PI of two NIH-funded trials targeting asthma prevention. These prevention studies have been built on prior translational birth cohort studies identifying risk factors and pathways to asthma development. Dr. Jackson has contributed seminal research findings that are shaping the care of asthma in children.
