Matthew Rondina is a Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pathology at the University of Utah. He is also Director of Molecular Medicine at the University of Utah and is the Medical Director of the Thrombosis Service at the Salt Lake City Veteran’s Administration Health Center. Originally raised in Boston, Massachussettes, Matthew completed his medical school and internal medicine training at the University of Utah. He then joined the faculty at the University of Utah, where he established a research program focused on uncovering new biological aspects of platelets and megakaryocytes during thrombo-inflammation. Major ongoing efforts are (1) to use innovative sequencing technologies to understand how gene expression in platelets is altered in response to inflammation; (2) to map gene expression changes to cell function and host responses in disease; and (3) to determine the regulatory elements controlling gene expression and cellular functional responses. Matthew's research laboratory couples relevant in vitro and in vivo model systems with clinical studies to mechanistically establish new functions of platelet and megakaryocyte and to connect these new functions to host responses and clinical outcomes.
