George A. Macones, M.D. is a reproductive epidemiologist focused on obstetrical issues. He has 2 main areas of interest. First, Dr. Macones works on issues related to complicated childbirth. He has published extensively on the clinical efficacy and safety of vaginal birth after cesarean section-

more work which was funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. He is also researching combining fetal ultrasound and maternal x-ray pelvimetry to predict vaginal delivery in low and high risk patients.
Dr. Macones other research interest is on the prediction and prevention of spontaneous preterm birth. He has worked on the assessment of safety of medications to arrest preterm labor, and has performed several clinical trials to prospectively test management strategies for such patients. Most recently, Dr. Macones has become interested in genetic susceptibilities to preterm birth, and whether there may be interactions between genetic and environmental factors.
