Dr. Dombrovski’s primary aim is to characterize alterations in decision processes that may contribute to suicidal behavior. His main theoretical interest is in the resolution of the exploration/exploitation dilemma under cognitive constraints. His lab employs functional MRI augmented with reinforcement learning computational models to study decisions involving uncertainty, social exchanges, and time in older depressed suicide attempters and individuals with borderline personality. He has linked suicide attempters’ poor decision-making to disrupted expected value signals in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex. Dr. Dombrovski takes care of patients with difficult-to-treat mood disorders, neurocognitive disorders, borderline personality, and suicidal behavior.
