Biographical statement

The overarching theme of Dr. Hsu's research relates to the study of patients with chronic kidney disease. Previous projects have refined understanding of causes of chronic kidney disease (such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension) and defined consequences of chronic kidney disease (such as anemia, cardiovascular disease and acute kidney injury). Current areas of interest include defining the impact of acute kidney injury on the course of chronic kidney disease and examining the transition from chronic kidney disease to end-stage renal disease. Dr. Hsu also engages in collaborative translational research of biomarkers in kidney disease.
