NHLBI: Staff Scientist, Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics Branch
The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Staff Scientist to join the Laboratory of Early Sickle Mortality Prevention as a Full-Time Employee in the laboratory of Dr. Courtney Fitzhugh. The candidate for the position will have responsibilities that include contributing to the development and application of molecular diagnostics and in vitro analyses. He or she will also contribute to animal transplant model validation.
The mission of the Laboratory of Early Sickle Mortality Prevention is to develop a widely available haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant method for patients with sickle cell disease that maximizes efficacy while minimizing toxicity. We seek to identify clinical and genetic risk factors for attenuation or progression of heart, lung, and kidney disease after curative therapy. We also seek to describe the clinical and genetic risk factors for myeloid malignancy development before and after curative therapy for sickle cell disease. There are strong interactions with a wide range of independent research groups, and the position offers exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside of the NIH.
The existing faculty in the NHLBI DIR is an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a wide range of basic and clinical research topics (please see http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/research/intramural) complemented by the other research institutes within the DIR (please see http://www.nih.gov/science/#campus).
The successful candidate should have a strong track record of achievement expertise and experience in a research environment. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, have at least 3 years of formal mentored postdoctoral training in molecular biology or genetics and research, experience with training responsibilities, and evidence of scientific research productivity evidenced by a good track record of peer-reviewed publications sufficient to carry out the duties and responsibilities. The salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.
