Dr. Bandopadhayay is a Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist/Scientist within the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, an Associate Professor (Pediatrics) at Harvard Medical School, and an Institute Member of the Broad Institute. She is committed to conducting and contributing to translational research to identify new therapeutic targets and strategies for children with brain tumors, while also caring for children diagnosed with brain tumors.
Dr. Bandopadhayay leads a laboratory dedicated to research in the field of pediatric neuro-oncology – specifically the use of functional and somatic cancer genomics to identify novel therapeutic targets across brain tumors and to characterize mechanisms of resistance to cancer therapies. She serves as the Director of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Pediatric Low-Grade Astrocytoma Program. She is first or last author on papers in high-tier journals including Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Cancer, Nature Communications, Cancer Research and contributed to collaborative work in papers published in Nature Medicine, Science, Cell and Cancer Cell. Her research has been recognized through numerous awards including NIH funding (K99/R00 and R37 Merit Awards), DOD funding, the ‘Neuro-Oncology Investigator Award’ from the American Academy of Neurology and the ‘Escape Velocity Award’ from the Broad Institute. In 2022, she was elected a member of the Society for Pediatric Research.
In addition, education and mentorship of the next generation of physicians and scientists is very important to Dr. Bandopadhayay. In Australia, she co-led the development of a national training curriculum for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She leads the annual Broad Cancer Program Training Boot-Camp for post-doctoral researchers, and mentor’s students, residents and fellows. She is a Faculty Member of the Harvard Biological and Biomedical Sciences graduate program and serves as an Advisor for the MIT/Harvard MD-PhD Program. Dr. Bandopadhayay has received numerous awards in recognition of teaching and mentorship.
