Dr. Lee is an internationally recognized expert in ovarian cancer and a physician scientist focused on DNA damage response pathways as therapeutic targets in gynecological malignancies. She received her medical degree from Wonju College of Medicine, Yonsei University in South Korea. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center and fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI)/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Dr. Lee was appointed as an Assistant Clinical Investigator in the NCI through the Physician-Scientist Early Investigator Program in 2012. In 2016, Dr. Lee successfully competed for a Lasker Scholarship Award in Clinical Research, a highly competitive award reviewed by an extramural committee designed to foster and train promising young investigators interested in clinical research. Dr. Lee now leads multiple clinical trials through the Center for Cancer Research/NCI, NRG Oncology and GOG Foundation. Dr. Lee is also active in conducting clinical and laboratory research directed towards developing a better understanding of the biology of recurrent ovarian cancer and translating discoveries from the laboratory into the clinic. Dr. Lee is a highly-respected clinician. She holds board certification for the practice of medical oncology. She has fostered a diverse research and clinical team and encourages an open, supportive, and highly interactive atmosphere within her group. Dr. Lee’s work has been recognized as cutting edge research in the field of DNA damage repair inhibitors and targeted drug combination therapies in ovarian cancer by the national and international gynecological oncology. She was awarded the first Jane C. Wright MD ASCO Young Investigator Award, New York Ovarian Cancer Research Award by Foundation for Women’s Cancer, the Federal Technology Transfer Award, the Exceptional Mentor Award and NCI Director’s Award. She also serves as an expert on many scientific panels and grant review committees and as a reviewer for highly regarded peer-reviewed journals.
