Marcus Goncalves is an endocrinologist and translational scientist at Weill Cornell Medicine. He holds degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, and an M.D. and Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed clinical training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His research focuses on the interactions between cancer and systemic nutrient metabolism, including fructose metabolism, insulin signaling, and cancer cachexia. He has contributed to development of therapeutic and dietary strategies to modulate systemic glucose and insulin levels in cancer patients, and is involved in several clinical studies to assess the role of diet in treating cancer. In his clinical practice, he cares for patients with cancer experiencing endocrine complications such as hyperglycemia, cachexia, and other metabolic disease.
