Dr Steve Taylor is an Infectious Diseases specialist and an Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Research Professor of Global Health at Duke University. Dr Taylor’s primary research focus is falciparum malaria, and he collaborates broadly with investigators in Kenya, DR Congo, and throughout sub-Saharan Africa on clinical and translational studies of P. falciparum parasites. His research program encompasses clinical trials of malaria prevention in high-risk groups, molecular epidemiologic studies of parasite transmission and immune responses, and experimental genetic investigations of parasite pathogenesis in model systems. He has served on multiple scientific evidence review panels for the WHO Global Malaria Programme, NIH review committees, and Data and Safety Monitoring Boards of publicly-funded trials of malaria prevention. He has published in a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals, mentored trainees across a spectrum of disciplines and levels, and been awarded numerous NIH research project grants. He is committed to the rigorous application of scientific approaches to answering critical questions in malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, and to the application of this evidence to enhance the control and elimination of malaria.
