Dr. Kiran Khush completed her undergraduate studies in Biology, with Honors and Distinction, at Stanford University (1995). She then obtained her MD at Harvard Medical School (2000), followed by internal medicine residency (2003), general cardiology fellowship (2005), and advanced heart failure transplant cardiology (2006) training at the University of California San Francisco. She subsequently obtained a Masters in Clinical Research (2007) and then moved to Stanford University (2008) to continue her research training. At Stanford, she was promoted to Assistant Professor (2011), Associate Professor (2015), and Professor of Medicine (2020). Dr. Khush is currently Director of Heart Transplant Research at Stanford, where she supervises a comprehensive clinical and translational research program dedicated to improving access to and outcomes after heart transplantation. In this role she mentors trainees and junior faculty dedicated to heart transplant research. She also serves as the Director for the Advanced Heart Failure Transplant Cardiology Fellowship program. She has served on the editorial boards of several cardiology and transplant journals, including the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation and Circulation Heart Failure, and is Associate Editor of the American Journal of Transplantation. Dr. Khush has held prominent leadership roles in the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), where she served as Associate Director of the International Thoracic Transplant Registry (2016-2021), on the Board of Directors (2020-2023), the Scientific Program Committee (2019-2022), and is Program Chair-Elect for the 2025 Annual Meeting. Dr. Khush serves on the national Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients Review Committee, which provides scientific oversight for analyses of national transplant metrics. She is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader who has collaborated extensively with basic investigators, bioengineers, and scientists from other fields to bring innovation and scientific advances to the field of heart transplantation.
