About the awardee

Dr. Joshua Gruber, MD, PhD is a K08-supported physician-scientist appointed in 2021 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  He completed MD/PhD training at the University of Pennsylvania with thesis work under Craig Thompson on RNA metabolism, then completed Internal Medicine Residency and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Stanford University. His postdoctoral training at Stanford under Michael Snyder was supported by the Jane Coffin Childs Foundation for Medical Research and Susan G. Komen and focused on genetic causes of breast cancer.  His K08 career development award from the National Cancer Institute focuses on metabolic control of chromatin synthesis. He is also a Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Scholar and a V Scholar supported by the V Foundation for his work on targeting chromatin synthesis for cancer therapy. He is an accomplished breast cancer medical oncologist, and clinical researcher. He leads cancer clinical trials at the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern through the phase 1 and breast cancer disease-oriented groups. His research laboratory works to develop novel immunotherapy and chromatin cancer targets through probing biological pathways and engineering new chemical and genetic tools.  His scholarly work has been published in Cell, Molecular Cell, Cell Reports, Nature Communications, and Nature Cancer.
