About the awardee

Jared Mayers, MD, PhD, is a physician in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Emily Balskus at Harvard University. He previously earned his MD from Harvard Medical School and his PhD in Biology from MIT, where he studied branched-chain amino acid metabolism in Kras-mutant cancers in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Vander Heiden. His current research focuses on uncovering previously unknown metabolic activities of harmful microbes in human diseases with the goal of exploiting these potential weaknesses to improve patient care. Outside of the hospital and lab, he enjoys running, trying new restaurants, and spending time with his family.
