About the awardee

Anna Podolanczuk, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, the Associate Director of the Weill Cornell Interstitial Lung Disease Program, and the Helen and Robert Appel Clinical Scholar in Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Brown University. She earned her MD from New York University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Columbia University. She also completed a Master of Science in Patient-Oriented Research at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Podolanczuk specializes in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis. She strives to combine state of the art evidence-based medicine with personalized care for patients with advanced pulmonary diseases. Her research program is inspired by the daily challenges of caring for patients with these incurable and fatal diseases, and aims to advance the understanding of pulmonary fibrosis in humans. Dr. Podolanczuk is an NIH K23-funded investigator studying novel risk factors for pulmonary fibrosis. Her work focuses on characterizing incidentally detected Interstitial Lung Abnormalities as a risk factor for pulmonary fibrosis, and identifying factors associated with incidence and progression from preclinical to clinical disease. She is an active investigator in multiple NIH and industry-funded clinical trials of new therapies for pulmonary fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases. On a personal note, she is a first-generation immigrant, and is deeply committed to empowering future generations of physicians and scientists by actively promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic medicine.
