About the awardee

Debra Dixon, MD, MS is an Instructor in Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Dr. Dixon is a graduate of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, where she earned both her medical doctorate and Master of Science in Clinical Research. She completed a Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellowship during her undergraduate medical training. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency and a Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at Vanderbilt as part of the Harrison Society ABIM Research Pathway.

Dr. Dixon’s research focuses on identifying the drivers of disparities and inequities in heart failure incidence, care, and outcomes in historically marginalized populations. Her goal is to mitigate disparities in heart failure through the design and implementation of interventions that address barriers to equitable care. She acquired experience and expertise in health disparities and health equity research during her T32 postdoctoral cardiovascular research fellowship and American College of Cardiology/ Association of Black Cardiologists Bristol Myers Squibb Research Fellowship. She is currently supported by a K12. Dr. Dixon’s research has been published in high impact journals and has been presented at both national and international conferences.
