She collaborates with individuals across different disciplines, including pulmonary medicine, radiology and nuclear medicine, and she is deeply committed to coordinating multi-disciplinary care for these patients.

Dr. Volkmann currently has an NIH K23 Career Development Award on systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease, 70 first- or last-author publications, and she recently submitted her first R01 application in October 2023. She also lead an international research consortium dedicated to furthering our understanding of the role of the gut microbiome in systemic sclerosis, which is comprised of investigators from 12 countries across four continents.

Dr. Volkmann seeks to become an independent physician scientist in academic rheumatology. She aspires to improve the lives of all patients with autoimmune lung diseases through research and the application of personalized medicine.
