About the awardee

Lisa L. Korn, MD, PhD is a rheumatologist physician-scientist and Instructor in Medicine. She is interested in better understanding environmental triggers of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and how these triggers might act through the gut. She completed her undergraduate degree at Princeton University and her MD/PhD training at the University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained her PhD in immunology under the supervision of Dr. Terri Laufer. During her PhD, she discovered regulators of immune cell niches in the small intestine. She completed her residency in internal medicine and clinical fellowship in rheumatology through the physician scientist pathway (the ABIM “short track”) at Yale University. As a rheumatologist, she cares for patients with inflammatory diseases, and the varied clinical presentations and unclear mechanistic underpinnings of rheumatic conditions inspire her research. She is completing her postdoctoral fellowship in Ruslan Medzhitov’s lab at Yale, where her current research focuses on the role of diet in regulating intestinal immunity. Her goal is to leverage her dual expertise in clinical rheumatology and mucosal immunology to become an independent investigator working to better understand and treat inflammatory conditions.
