About the awardee

Jeffrey M. Cohen, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Biomedical Informatics and Data Science at Yale School of Medicine.  He serves as the Director of the Psoriasis Treatment Program and as Director of Safety for the Department of Dermatology.  Dr. Cohen holds a BA from the University of Rochester and earned his MD at Harvard Medical School.  He then went on to complete an internship in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a residency in Dermatology at the NYU School of Medicine.

Dr. Cohen’s primary clinical focus is the treatment of patients with inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema with biologic and oral small molecule therapies.  He is most interested in optimizing the selection of therapies and understanding how to select a treatment approach that will be ideal for each patient.

In keeping with his clinical interest, Dr. Cohen’s research efforts relate to inflammatory skin disease.  His main area of work is epidemiology and health services research.  He utilizes large databases to describe comorbidities of conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and lichen planus. He also uses these large databases to understand barriers to health care and patterns of utilization and costs of dermatologic therapies. Additionally, Dr. Cohen is actively engaged in collaborative translational research to better understand the immunology that underlies inflammatory skin disease. These efforts are directed towards prediction of treatment outcomes and personalized medicine.

Dr. Cohen serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and on the Medical Board of the National Psoriasis Foundation.
