Aylin Rodan graduated from Yale and received her MD/PhD from the University of California, San Francisco, where she also completed a residency in internal medicine. She then went to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for clinical and postdoctoral research training in nephrology and renal physiology, and remained on faculty there for five years prior to her recruitment to the University of Utah in 2016. Dr. Rodan’s interests are centered around how the kidney responds to the modern high sodium, low potassium diet in ways that are both adaptive and maladaptive, using Drosophila melanogaster as a model. Areas of interest include elucidating mechanisms by which ions and water are sensed, understanding signaling pathways that interpret homeostatic deviations and regulate effector responses, and the transporters and metabolic pathways recruited to restore homeostasis. Dr. Rodan is a practicing nephrologist and serves as the Associate Director of Molecular Medicine at the University of Utah, as well as additional service roles at the university and in her professional societies. She enjoys teaching undergraduates, graduate and medical students, and residents and fellows, in the clinical setting and in the lab.
