Elected 2023

Dr. Nazarian is a Professor of Medicine in the section of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He is an internationally recognized leader in cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia substrate imaging, and complex arrhythmia ablation. His research focus is to combine imaging and electrophysiologic data to precisely characterize the site and nature of cardiac pathology and to guide the most accurate and safe treatment. He has devoted himself to developing a group structure for collaborative research across disciplines and established the Arrhythmia Imaging Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania. This group has attracted faculty and fellows from Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiology, Radiology, Biostatistics and Biomedical Engineering and has been effective at enhancing collaborations, productivity, and innovative translational research. In addition to cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Nazarian has expertise in epidemiologic and statistical methodology. Dr. Nazarian has contributed to clinical and research advances in (1) detailed imaging for arrhythmia risk stratification, (2) myocardial substrate characterization for atrial and ventricular arrhythmia, (3) advanced image guidance of catheter ablation procedures, (4) electromagnetic compatibility of cardiac devices, (5) neuromodulation for arrhythmia suppression, and (6) catheter ablation techniques and outcomes research.
