Areej El-Jawahri is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Survivorship Program, Associate Director of Cancer Outcomes Research, and Director of Digital Health at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. Dr. El-Jawahri is an oncologist specializing in the care of patients with blood cancers and those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and adoptive cellular therapy. Her goal is to improve the quality of life and care of patients with blood cancers and their families. Her research interest includes developing, testing, and implementing supportive, palliative, and shared decision-making interventions to improve the lived experience and quality of care for patients with blood cancers throughout the continuum of their illness. She is also interested in enhancing patient-clinician communication and developing care delivery models to optimize end-of-life care for patients with blood cancers. Her work also focuses on adapting effective palliative and supportive care interventions to a digital health platform to enhance their scalability and dissemination. Dr. El-Jawahri has received grant funding from the National Palliative Care Research Center, the National Institute of Nursing Research, the National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
