Biographical statement

Dr. Jain received his BA from the University of California, Berkeley and his MD from NYU School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and clinical cardiology training at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Jain’s research lies at the nexus of developmental biology and epigenetics, deciphering how three-dimensional genome organization orchestrate cellular identity and the implications for disease. His work has demonstrated the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which progenitor cells regulate stemness. Dr. Jain’s laboratory has built a body of work deciphering how spatial positioning of the genome at the nuclear lamina directs cardiac cellular identity in development and disease. In addition, his work has revealed mechanisms by which transcription factors not only govern transcription, but also choreograph genome folding to regulate cardiac development. The impact of his work has been recognized by the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation (Career Award for Medical Scientists), Allen Foundation, and NIH Office of the Director (New Innovator Award, Transformative Research Award). He has been involved in multiple local and national efforts to train the next generation of physician-scientists. Dr. Jain was the recipient of the 2021 Seldin-Smith Award for Pioneering Research.
