Elected 2021

Dr. Ho is a pediatric nephrologist and physician-scientist. She is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Ho earned her medical degree at the University of Western Ontario (Canada). She trained in pediatrics at British Columbia Children’s Hospital, University of British Columbia (Canada) and subsequently in pediatric nephrology at Children’s Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ho’s laboratory is focused on understanding how microRNAs regulate kidney development and disease. Their research has shown that microRNAs are involved in regulating the proliferation and survival of nephron progenitors during kidney development, which has important implications for congenital nephron endowment and subsequent kidney health in children and adults. Their studies have demonstrated that a specific group of microRNAs, the miR-17~92 cluster, is required for normal nephron number and patterning. Currently, the laboratory is focused on understanding the role for this microRNA cluster in different cellular compartments in acute kidney injury and renal fibrosis.
