Dr. Flythe is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Vice Chief of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. She is the Director of Dialysis Services for UNC Hospitals. Her research focuses on improving the experiences and outcomes of individuals living with advanced kidney disease with a focus on those with dialysis-dependent disease. Dr. Flythe has been funded by the NIDDK, NHLBI, PCORI, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and industry and has received numerous awards for her research, including the James W. Woods Junior Faculty Award from the UNC School of Medicine and an ASCI Young Physician-Scientist Award, both in 2018. Among her national leadership roles, Dr. Flythe currently serves as the Chair of the Kidney Health Initiative’s Patient Preferences for Novel Kidney Replacement Therapies Project and Co-Chair of the American Society of Nephrology Maintenance Dialysis Educational Program. She is a member of the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) Executive Committee as well as the Board of Directors of the Kidney Health Initiative, a joint partnership between the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and American Society of Nephrology. She serves as an Associate Editor at Kidney360 and is a member of numerous editorial boards including those of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
