Paul Cohen is the Albert Resnick, MD Assistant Professor, Senior Attending Physician, and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Metabolism at the Rockefeller University. He is also a cardiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center focused on cardiometabolic diseases in cancer patients and survivors. Dr. Cohen received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He is a graduate of the Cornell/Rockefeller/Sloan Kettering Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program. He completed his PhD research in Dr. Jeffrey Friedman’s lab studying the unique metabolic effects of the hormone leptin. Dr. Cohen then pursued clinical training in Internal Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center and in Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He completed postdoctoral research training in Dr. Bruce Spiegelman’s lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School studying transcriptional determinants of adipocyte identity. Dr. Cohen joined the faculty of the Rockefeller University in 2015. His lab employs novel imaging and biochemical methods as part of a systems-based approach to understand how obesity leads to metabolic diseases and cancer. His studies span from the basic cell biology of adipocytes to translational studies in humans with the ultimate goal of developing therapies to break the link between obesity and comorbid diseases.
