Dr. Harris is a pediatric infectious disease specialist, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and chief of the Division of Pediatric Global Health at the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. He received his M.D. from Duke University and M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency and chief residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Harris is an investigator in the area of host-pathogen interactions in Vibrio cholerae infection and cholera vaccines. His laboratory has been working in collaboration with investigators at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research in Dhaka, Bangladesh (since 2003) and with Partners In Health / Zanmi Lasante in Haiti (since 2010). These collaborations have focused on understanding human innate and adaptive immune responses which are associated with long lasting immunity against cholera, and on how cholera vaccines can be better employed to reduce the burden of disease in endemic areas. In addition to his research and administrative roles, Dr. Harris maintains a clinical practice with particular interests in enteric infection and vaccination.
