Dr. Weihl has gained international recognition in the understanding protein quality control in inherited and acquired myopathies.  He has defined the pathophysiology and contributed to the genetic identification of disorders that lead to protein aggregation in muscle, brain and bone tissue.  In addition, his work has defined autophagic dysfunction as principle pathogenic mechanism in age associated muscle disorders.
