Dr. Zaoutis research focuses on healthcare epidemiology and comparative effectiveness research. More specifically, the key areas include: (1) establishing the epidemiology, risk factors, outcomes, and effective treatments for fungal infections in children; (2) determining the impact of antimicrobial stewardship programs in both the hospital and ambulatory care setting; (3) discerning the frequency and impact of healthcare-acquired and antibiotic resistant infections in children; and (4) determining the risk factors for common pediatric infections (e.g. influenza) and the comparative effectiveness of different treatment strategies for the treatment of common pediatric infections (e.g., osteomyelitis), all research that has been instrumental in guiding patient care and informing both previous and upcoming guidelines.
