Dr. Gokce's research interests currently focus on elucidating mechanisms of cardiovascular dysfunction in obesity and metabolic diseases. He is past recipient of NIH Research Career Development and American Heart Association New England Affiliate Awards and is currently the principal investigator on NIH-sponsored R01 grants that investigate the relationship between inflammatory activity in human adipose tissues and vascular and cardiometabolic dysfunction. These studies investigate the relationships among obesity, insulin resistance, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, adipose remodeling, mitochondrial dysfunction, and angiogenesis and evaluate how medical and surgical weight loss interventions and risk factor modification alter fat tissue metabolism and vascular health. Dr. Gokce has made significant contributions to defining depot-specific adipose tissue phenotypes and their relationship to the pathogenesis of vascular disease.
