Dr. Rosenberg’s research focuses on calcium signaling in mammalian cells, particularly striated muscle. Using calcium imaging and electrophysiology, his research seeks to understand how changes in calcium are decoded by a cell to activate signaling pathways that regulate long term cellular events including transcription and metabolism. In particular, his work has revealed the previous unrecognized role of calcium entry by store operated and TRPC channels in striated muscle. The ultimate goal of this research is to better understand the specificity of various calcium pools such as those activated by exercise training and neurohormonal activation. The overall goal of this research is to identify novel therapeutic strategies for muscle disease including skeletal myopathies, heart failure and insulin resistance.
