David Andes, M.D., is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin in the Departments of Medicine and Medical Microbiology and Immunology. He is the Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases. The overriding theme of Dr. Andes’ research is antifungal therapy and resistance. He utilizes bench and clinical antifungal pharmacodynamics approaches to define strategies that lead to and prevent antifungal drug resistance. He has also applied these tools for successful drug development. Another focus of Dr. Andes' research is to identify the molecular basis for fungal resistance mechanisms associated with the biofilm lifestyle. He has uncovered a novel resistance mechanism and using these basic observations to discover new antifungal therapies targeted toward these difficult to treat infections. His clinical interests include fungal epidemiology, diagnosis, and therapeutics.
