Elected 2007
Dr Izidore Lossos is the director of Lymphoma Program at the University of Miami. Translational research that gaps between the basic science and a patient's bedside is the cornerstone of his research. His laboratory is actively involved in the following research endeavors: 1. Identification of molecular prognostic biomarkers in different lymphoma subtypes and elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying the prognostic differences. 2. Development of new methodologies for gene expression profiling in paraffin embedded specimens. 3. Elucidation of distinct signaling processes in lymphoma subtypes with major emphasis on the role of phosphatases. 4. Studies directed to identify the role and function of HGAL- a germinal center specific gene that was cloned by Dr. Lossos. 5. Studies of molecular mechanisms underlying transformation of follicular lymphoma to diffuse large cell lymphoma. 6. Development of new targeted therapies for lymphomas. The goal of these studies is to broaden understanding of lymphoma pathogenesis, to identify diagnostic tools that will enable a priori identification of patients with different outcome - a necessary step for implementation of patient-tailored therapies.
