Jing Zhou, M.D., Ph.D., joined the Harvard faculty in 1993. Dr. Zhou was the first woman recipient of the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Nephrology and American Heart Association. Dr. Zhou serves on a Study Section at the NIDDK and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. Dr. Zhou's current major research interests focus on polycystins — a novel family of transmembrane proteins, polycystic kidney disease, and renal cilia. She has made major contributions to molecular genetics of inherited kidney diseases (Alport Syndrome and polycystic kidney disease in particular), structure and function of glomerular basement membrane, and the function of polycystins and primary cilia in renal epithelia.
