Dr. Khoury received her Medical Diploma from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1984 having been elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 1983. She completed her neurology residency at the Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988. She joined the Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a Research Fellow at the Center for Neurologic Diseases In 1991, and joined the Faculty in 1994. In 1998 she was promoted to Associate Professor of Neurology and in 2001 she was additionally appointed as the co-Director of the Partners Multiple Sclerosis Center, Boston. Dr. Khoury’s laboratory has focused on investigating the mechanisms of tolerance in EAE, with particular interest in the T cell costimulatory pathways and in interactions between the immune system and neural stem cells. She developed and directs the Clinical Immunology Laboratory at the Center for Neurologic Diseases that specializes in biomarker development for multiple sclerosis. She is the PI of 4 active NIH grants including the Autoimmunity Centers of Excellence Award, and 2 National Multiple Sclerosis Society grants. She is committed to translational research and is the PI of a clinical trial funded by the Immune Tolerance Network. She served as member of NMSS study section and currently serves on the CNBT study section at NIH. She was elected to ASCI and the American Neurological Association in 2002.
