Systems-Level Investigations of Organogenesis The Laboratory of Developmental Systems Biology studies the development of the heart and body wall muscles of the Drosophila embryo as a model for elucidating general principles of gene regulation and organ formation. We use a multidisciplinary approach in our studies in which genetics, genomics, biochemical, molecular, cellular and computational methods are combined in an integrated way that enables us to obtain a systems-level understanding of organogenesis. Specific research projects currently in progress include investigations of cell type-specific transcriptional regulatory networks, as well as functional studies of individual genes and pathways involved in cardiac specification and morphogenesis.
